Arizona Cardinals Contenders? Will They Win The NFC West?

The Arizona Cardinals have been impressive so far in the 2021 season. A team that went 8-8 in 2020 addressed the offense and the defense in the offseason. Providing more weapons for quarterback Kyler Murray along with adding protection on the offensive line. Cliff Kingsbury continues to improve as a head coach. So far, the Arizona Cardinals have been very impressive putting up some amazing numbers. Arizona’s Week One matchup was against a very good football team the Tennessee Titans. The Cardinals went to Nissan Stadium, in Nashville, Tennessee, and won easily 38-13.

In Week 2 the Arizona Cardinals squared off against the Minnesota Vikings. The game was hard-fought and the Cardinals would pull off a thriller winning 34-33. Kyler would shine as he would throw for 400 yards, rush for 31 yards, and have a combined four touchdowns on the day.

The feeling is that the Arizona Cardinals are not fully clicking yet, and have plenty more to offer. So with that being said can they win the deep NFC West?

Drafting Ability

The Arizona Cardinals have been able to scout and draft. Since 2015, the Cardinals have drafted players like D.J Humphries, Markus Golden, David Johnson, Haason Reddick, Budda Baker, Christian Kirk, Chase Edmonds, Kyler Murray, Byron Murphy, Andy Isabella, Deionte Thompson, Isaiah Simmons, Zaven Collins, and Rondale Moore.

Many other players contribute and have made such an impact on this team. Being able to capitalize on the draft helps pay veteran players, plugs in young and youthful talent to make a well-rounded football team.

The Cardinals drafted Isaiah Simmons out of Clemson in 2020 and so far this year he leads the team in total tackles. In 2021 the Cardinals drafted two players that are having an instant impact. Zaven Collins is showing off the talent he put on display at Tulsa. Collins has helped bolster the linebackers.

Rondale Moore from Purdue is the other pick and he is putting on a show. Moore has been targeted 13 times catching 11 of those for 182 yards in two games; Moore has also caught one touchdown. Hitting on draft picks is so important in the NFL and the Cardinals have shown they can do that.

Key Free Agent Additions

One of the biggest surprises in the offseason was JJ Watt signing with the Arizona Cardinals on March 3rd, 2021.
JJ Watt, who had a tremendous career in Houston, would choose the Arizona Cardinals, and be paired with some very good defenders like Chandler Jones and Budda Baker.

The Cardinals would also add James Conner in the backfield after losing Keyan Drake to the Las Vegas Raiders. A low-risk, high reward sign was long-time Cincinnati Bengal AJ Green. AJ Green would be paired with DeAndre Hopkins, Christian Kirk, and Andy Isabella.

The Cardinals would then sign Malcolm Butler, but he chose to retire due to personal reasons. A highly sought-after center would choose to sign with the Arizona Cardinals. Rodney Hudson has been a Pro Bowler three times. He would choose the Arizona Cardinals and help bolster the offensive line.

In the end, the Arizona Cardinals are off to a hot start to the season and again have not clicked on full cylinders. This team still has a lot to show. They have a tough schedule, specifically in their division. Having to play the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, and the Seattle Seahawks is no easy road.

They also have teams like the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, and Dallas Cowboys sprinkled in their schedule. This will be a true test for this Arizona Cardinals football team and would prepare them for winning the NFC West and making a deep run in the playoffs.
