Border Fuel 2021 NFL Mock Draft 1.0 (Pre-Free Agency)

There is a lot of uncertainty heading into this year’s free agency period in the NFL. As of right now, we still do not have a locked-in number for the salary cap. Teams are anticipating for the second time the cap number will be less than the previous year.

This mock draft is full of trades and some fans will be happy and some will not like trading up. Every time I ask fans who their team should draft, I get the same response, “trade down”. As with all mock drafts throughout the off-season, teams may fill needs and no longer need to draft the player I selected for them

Let’s have some fun! With the first pick in this mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars are on the clock.

1. Jacksonville Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence-QB, Clemson

Jacksonville finally gets their projected franchise QB.

2.**TRADE** New York Jets trade picks 2, 34, 66, 2022 1st, and 2022 3rd round picks to the Houston Texans for QB Dashaun Watson, pick 148, and 2022 4th round pick.
Houston Texans, Zach Wilson-QB, BYU

The Texans are unable to work out their issues with Watson and he forces their hand and he gets traded to New York. New York gives up a lot of draft capital to get their franchise guy but remembers they still have the 23rd pick this year and Seattle’s first-rounder next year. For the Texans, they get one of the top QB’s in this year’s draft.

3.**TRADE** Carolina Panthers trade picks 8, 39, and 2022 1st round picks to the Miami Dolphins for pick 3.
Carolina Panthers, Justin Fields-QB, Ohio State

Carolina misses out on getting Watson, both owner and coach came out and said they need more out of their QB. Miami keeps building up their draft pick capital for this year and next year. If this trade does happen Miami will have 3 straight years of two first-round picks.

Fields could end up being one of the top QB’s in this draft with the right system. And Carolina and their coaching staff will help Fields succeed.

4. Atlanta Falcons
Patrick Surtain II-CB, Alabama

The offense was not the issue last season in Atlanta. Playing in a division with Micheal Thomas, Mike Evans, and DJ Moore, Atlanta could use a shutdown corner.

5. Cincinnati Bengals
Penei Sewell-OT, Oregon

Cincinnati needs to protect Joe Burrow and keep him healthy.

6. Philadelphia Eagles
Ja’Marr Chase-WR, LSU

Even with the trade of QB Carson Wentz, I think they need to build around new starter Jalen Hurts.

7. **TRADE** Dallas Cowboys trade picks 10, 75, 194, and 2022 3rd round pick to the Detroit Lions for pick 7
Dallas Cowboys Caleb Farley-CB, VT

Dallas trades up to get a top corner in the draft. For Detroit, they have a new front office and new coaching staff that will want to build the team in their vision.

Dallas should have Dak Prescott back whether on a long-term deal or they franchise him again that should boost their offense. Farley will give them a top corner they have been looking for.

8. **Miami Dolphins
DeVonta Smith-WR, Alabama

Miami trades back and still gets the player most fans want them to draft. Miami gets a playmaker to help develop Tua.

9. Denver Broncos
Trey Lance-QB, North Dakota State

Denver misses out on the top corners in the draft with Dallas jumping ahead of them. Lance gives them a QB with possibly the highest ceiling in this draft.

10. **Detroit Lions
Micah Parsons-LB, Penn State

Detroit gets luck like Miami did, getting the player they wanted and trading back to build up their draft stock. Parsons is a machine that will be the leader of the defense for years to come.

11. New York Giants
Rashawn Slater-OL, Northwestern

New York needs to build up their starting offensive line. Slater brings versatility as he can play tackle or guard.

12. San Francisco 49ers
Jaycee Horn-CB, South Carolina

San Francisco misses out on the top QB’s this year, so they need to replace key pieces on defense.

13. **TRADE** Arizona Cardinals trade pick 16 and 2022 2nd round pick to the LA Chargers for pick
Arizona Cardinals, Kyle Pitts-TE, Florida

Arizona trades up to get the guy they want and will help develop Kyler Murray. Los Angeles gets an extra second to move down only three spots.

Arizona is losing Larry Fitzgerald, a key third-down target for Murray. Pitts is a dynamic playmaker in the middle of the field.

14. **TRADE** Washington trade picks 19, 74, and 2022 2nd round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for pick 19
Washington Football Team
Mac Jones-QB, Alabama

Washington trades in front of New England to get their guy. Jones is in a similar mold of Alex Smith and the offense was most productive in short to intermediate passes.

15. New England Patriots
Jaylen Waddle-WR, Alabama

New England misses out on the QB’s right now, but they get an explosive offensive weapon for their offense. An element they have been missing.

16. **LA Chargers
Christian Barmore-DT, Alabama

Los Angeles gets the best interior defensive lineman in the draft. LA is in a similar position as Atlanta, with above-average offense but needs to be able to stop other teams.

Jacksonville Jaguars, Kwity Paye-EDGE, Michigan

Jacksonville trade up to get the top-rated EDGE prospect in the draft. Paye has the flexibility to play in a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense.

18. Miami Dolphins
Christian Darrisaw-T, VT

Miami locks up a day one starter at tackle to help improve their offense.

19. **Minnesota Vikings
Alijah Vera-Ticker G, USC

Minnesota get the top rated interior offensive lineman.

20. Chicago Bears
Teven Jenkins-T, Oklahoma State

Chicago seems to always be trying to build their offense and offensive line. If you watch Jenkins on film, he lock-downs top pass-rushers.

21. Indianapolis Colts
Gregory Rousseau-EDGE, Miami

Indianapolis traded for their QB in Wentz now that Philip Rivers retired. Building up their defensive line and pass rush will be key in getting back into the playoffs.

22. Tennessee Titans
Pat Freiermuth-TE, Penn State

With the possibility of losing Starting Tight End Jonnu Smith in free agency, Tennessee adds a productive player who can block and make plays in the passing game.

23. New York Jets
Rashod Bateman-WR, Minnesota

Getting Watson was a big move by New York now they get him a highly productive target.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers
Trevon Moehirg-S, TCU

Pittsburgh get a Safety that can play along with Minkah Fitzpatrick.

25. **LV Raiders
Azeez Ojulari-EDGE, Georgia

Las Vegas showed glimpses they could be contenders but there was a lack of consistent pass rush.

26. Cleveland Browns
Jeremiah Owusu-Kotamoah-LB, Notre Dame

Cleveland is looking to build up their defense get a linebacker who doesn’t miss tackles and has some coverage skills.

27. **TRADE** Tampa Bay Buccaneers trade picks 35 and 95 to the Baltimore Ravens for pick 27
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Nick Bolton-LB, Missouri

Tampa moves up to get a replacement for Lavonte David. Winning the Super Bowl is the goal of all teams, but that comes with the downside that you can not keep everyone.

28. New Orleans Saints
Asante Samuel Jr-CB, Florida State

New Orleans gets a defensive back who is a ball hawk and has great coverage skills.
**New Orleans trades for QB Sam Darnold from New York for draft picks (2022 2nd round and 2023 4th round picks)

29. Green Bay Packers
Rondale Moore-WR, Purdue

Green Bay gets a wideout of play opposite of Davante Adams and helps NFL’s MVP Aaron Rodgers.

30. **Trade** Philadelphia Eagles trade pick 37 and 70 to the Buffalo Bills for pick 30
Philadelphia Eagles, Wyatt Davis-G, Ohio State

Philadelphia trades up to get a starter and improve their aging offensive line.

31. Kansas City Chiefs
Jayson Oweh-EDGE, Penn State

During the Super Bowl, the weakness of Kansas City was their offensive line. With all the top players selected they decide to take the top player and improve their defensive line rotation.

32.**Baltimore Ravens
Zaven Collins-LB, Tulsa

Baltimore can’t keep all their free agents on defense, and Collins is a solid pass rusher who could help fill in the holes.
