I am a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan, so yesterday’s win was a roller coaster ride for me and many “Bills Mafia” members. 2020 would be the most unique year we have had as a country. It only makes sense that the Bills would end up having one of their best season in the history of the franchise.
The First Half:
From the kick-off at 1:05 pm est, the Indianapolis Colts showed their game plan was to kick the ball out of Josh Allen’s hands by controlling the ball. The Colts took an early lead in the first with a field goal by Rodrigo Blankenship going up 3-0. The next drive, the Bills took the lead with Allen, as they found Dawson Knox on some type of quarterback sweep; but, Allen was able to flip the ball to a wide-open Knox taking their first lead of the game 7-3.
In the second quarter, the Colts were able to find the end zone with a Johnathan Taylor touchdown taking back the lead 10-7. As the second quarter was coming to an end, it looked like the Colts were going to add to their lead, but the Bills defense said “not so fast” with a goal-line stand. Colts coach Frank Reich went for it on fourth down and failed.
Allen and the Bills marched down 96 yards to close out the first half with a five-yard run by Allen, taking the lead back 14-10.
The Second Half:
Buffalo received the second have kick-off and was able to add to their lead with a 43-yard field goal by Tyler Bass 17-10. With their position, the Colts were able to move the ball but Blankenship missed a 33-yard field goal.
To start the fourth quarter, the Bills were able to finish off their drive with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Stephon Diggs 24-10. On the very next drive, the Colts were able to go the length of the field and score a touchdown. Coach Reich made the call to go for 2 and missed 24-16. the Bills were able to get into field goal range and Bass hit a 54-yard field goal to go up 27-16.
In less than two minutes, the Colts were able to drive down the field and score another touchdown, and this time they were successful on the two-point conversion. That cut the lead 27-24. After the next drive, it looked like the Bills were going to march down the field again but Allen took a sack and fumbled the ball to create a second and 33 and ended up punting the ball back to the Colts.
With just over two minutes left in the game, the Colts had the ball. The Colts were able to start moving the ball and got to about mid-field. Then, there was a play that looked like the Colts receiver fumbled the ball, but the referees called him down by contact. Now, the Colts have a life but were unable to move the ball into field goal range. With four seconds left on the clock, Philip Rivers and the Colts tried a hail mary and that was batted down. Bills win.
For the first time in forever:
That was the Bills’ first playoff win in 25 years with just over 6700 fans in the stands. As a Bills fan, it felt like a roller coaster ride the whole game. It was an excellent game with a lot of back and forth. The Bills are onto the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
