Can The Bucs Repeat With Tom Brady?

2020 Review

The Bucs are coming off of a miraculous Super Bowl win. Since the parade was needed yesterday afternoon, they’ve been bound on repeating next year. It will be certainly hard to stop them from doing that. Going into this past season, everyone knew that this Tampa roster was extremely talented.

The question was how they were going to put so many new faces together in such a short offseason. They did not have any training camp or preseason games, so for a brand new team, this made winning the super bowl even more impressive.

For a 43-year-old QB, who was leaving one system after 20 seasons and joining a completely different one, this may have been the most impressive part of all. The highly-rated debate of Brady versus Bill took another step this year, and it landed completely in Brady’s favor. If there was any doubt at all that he was the GOAT heading into this year, that was all taken away by the time Sunday night ended.

They finished the season on a roll in December and it carried right over into January where they picked up 3 consecutive road playoff wins. Two of those wins came against legends Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers. It was all topped off thanks to a win over the best QB in the league, Patrick Mahomes, right in Tampa for the super bowl. It certainly could not have ended better for Brady.

Looking to 2021

Next season, the challenge for the Bucs will certainly not go away, and it may even be more difficult this time around to win it all. Since they will be the defending champs, they will have a huge target on their back. All of the other teams in the league, especially the Chiefs, will be extremely hungry to get back to the Super Bowl. Tom Brady is no stranger to these types of scenarios; he is a seven-time Super Bowl champion and has all of the knowledge on how to handle these situations.

The strong majority of this team will be back next year, which will make it a lot easier for Brady to prepare during the off-season. The Bucs will be looking to get a long-term deal done with WR Chris Godwin. He is a very important part of this offense and has certainly earned the money he is asking for. Godwin will want a long term deal done, but the franchise tag also makes sense for both sides.

It is hard enough trying to repeat as Super Bowl champs in the NFL. Tom Brady being on your team makes the target on your back that much larger.

The good news is they will have an entire offseason to train together and to get an actual scheme under their belts before the season starts. This will be a very difficult team to face in 2021. They should be the odds on favorite once again to hold the Lombardi trophy on 2022.
