LaMelo Ball recorded a career-high 34 points, along with eight assists, four rebounds, two steals, and one block in a loss to the Utah Jazz. Another positive for LaMelo is he did all of this without getting a turnover. Not only did LaMelo have a great game but he also played with extreme confidence for a 19-year-old.
LaMelo has made his case to stay in the starting lineup over the past couple of games. If he keeps consistently getting high minutes and plays the way he did last night, then him winning Rookie Of The Year is a no-brainer. LaMelo is already considered by many to be in the lead for ROY this season. He is currently averaging 13.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 6.0 apg for the Charlotte Hornets but has struggled with his outside shot and his turnovers.
In last night’s game against the Jazz though, LaMelo attacked from all around the court and finished with a team-leading 34 points. He took it hard to the paint on multiple occasions and went four for nine at the three-point line. He showed confidence and the ability to knock down NBA three-point shots.

He also showed his progress by having better decision making and ended up with zero turnovers. LaMelo Ball may have just put the rest of the league on notice with his performance and pushed himself even further away from the other rookies. It would be fair to say LaMelo may have just grabbed Rookie Of The Year and ran away with it.
