Stephen Curry, superstar point guard, a three-time champion, two-time MVP and so much more. Damian Lillard, superstar point guard, six-time all-star, clutch shooter and so much more. Both players are the foundation for their franchises and have been some of the best talents of the past decade or so in the NBA.
While Curry has the rings, Lillard is nothing short of elite. So, if you had to choose which superstar to take for the next five years, who would it be? Curry or Lillard? Let’s check out.
Damian Lillard may not have the playoff success of Steph Curry, but his experience in the playoffs is big too. In his nine-year career, Lillard has scored more than Curry did in his first nine years. Lillard and Curry are similar in the fact that they both can shoot efficiently from anywhere on the floor. Lillard’s been helped by the fact that he got more playing time early on than Curry did. Does that mean anything in the grand scheme of things? I think it speaks volumes that both guys came from smaller schools but Lillard impacted his team immediately.
There is no doubt that Lillard has plenty of playoff experience, but it has not ended with a title yet. Lillard has also been a popular subject in trade talks and free agency for the coming years. Damian Lillard is a top ten guard but the only thing hindering his stock is his lack of titles. Once Dame Time climbs the mountain top and is holding the Larry O’Brien, then he will enter a whole new category of elite.
One-half of the splash bros, Curry made a dream at Davidson into a hall of fame career in the NBA. Three titles, two MVPs, 18 thousand points, and the leader in seven categories for the Warriors franchise is just a shortlist of accolades for Curry. Curry has proven to be one of, if not the most, elite three-point shooters of all time. While he still trails the great Ray Allen for career three-pointers made, Curry should easily pass that mark, considering he shot 800 three-pointers last season alone.
Curry has become a perennial superstar in the NBA. He has shifted the landscape of the NBA to a three-point heavy league. Not many players have changed the way basketball is played in the NBA but Curry is one of them. Curry has a spot in the hall of fame locked down and he still has a lot left in the tank.
Dame Or Steph?
As good as Dame is, I would have to choose Steph Curry for the next five seasons. Steph is just as consistent if not more so than Damian Lillard. Steph has the titles and the accolades sure, but he also has a level of leadership on the floor that is unmatched. Curry has taken the Warriors franchise from the cellar of the league to one of the best franchises in NBA history. Give me Steph Curry for the next five years, no doubt about it.
