GM LeBron James Trading Anthony Davis: An Impossible Nightmare

GM LeBron James Trading Anthony Davis: An Impossible Nightmare

If there’s one thing that we should know by now, LeBron James gets what LeBron James wants. Always.

That’s why many are calling him GM LeBron James.

He got an Anthony Davis when the Los Angeles Lakers finally completed the deal with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019.

After capturing the 2020 NBA title inside the house of Mickey Mouse, injuries left and right hampered the Lakers’ chances for a repeat. While they made it back to the playoffs, the Phoenix Suns ended the Lakers’ reign in six games, and that the injury that stuck Anthony Davis helped the Suns’ chances.

Long out of the playoffs, the Lakers are looking to make moves in the offseason to help build a championship contender anew. While names such as Damian Lillard and Ben Simmons are popping out as possible trade targets for the Lakers, they don’t have enough assets unless they are willing to break the duo of Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

Now, the Lakers putting LeBron James onto the trading block is almost an impossibility. But LeBron James wanting to trade Anthony Davis for Lillard is a different question.

Anthony Davis’ Health: A Liability

Anthony Davis only played 36 out of the 72 games in the 2020-2021 regular season. In the playoffs against the Suns, Davis suited up in five of the six games before exiting for good in Game Six.

He averaged 21 points and seven rebounds in the regular season before those numbers dropped to only 17 points and six rebounds in the 2021 playoffs.

While many lauded Anthony Davis for staying healthy during his stint in New Orleans, his two-season with LeBron James made him more like a liability with his injuries.

If there’s one thing that we’ve seen in the past, LeBron James cannot play without a healthy superstar teammate. If there’s one thing that could push GM LeBron James to trade Anthony Davis, it’s the latter’s injuries.

The Lakers Need AD

A healthy AD is still an unstoppable AD. That’s the kind of player LeBron James needs for a possible final championship run before hanging it up for good. Whether LeBron James admits it or not, the Lakers won the title last year because of AD. For a brief moment in the 2020-2021 season, they held the best record in the West because of a healthy AD.

LeBron James and the rest of the Lakers will not want to have a healthy Anthony Davis dominate them as he did during the past two seasons. At 28, he is still the best big man LeBron James had as a teammate and that, LeBron James can’t trade AD just because the latter is injury-prone as of late.
