Once the Houston Texans hired both David Culley and Nick Caserio to fill the head coaching and general manager jobs, there was one particular unhappy player; Deshaun Watson. Now, since he was viewed as the franchise QB, Deshaun had wanted input in all hires. Specifically, when it came to the head coaching position, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was Deshaun’s primary target.
However, with the Texans being the Texans, a completely different direction was taken. So, here we are today. Deshaun doesn’t want to be here, and everyone knows this by now. He’s told his agent and private communications have been had with the Texans, so now we’re in wait and see mode.
Great! Now what?
And that’s been the hardest part of this whole process. One minute you have reports saying that the Texans are intent on keeping him no matter what. Then the next you hear rumblings about the team fielding call offers just to also claim that it’s happened since draft night. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Ties to the Eagles, Dolphins, and Broncos have come out daily thanks to the teams’ assets. Heck over the weekend trade talks had reportedly heated up between the Eagles and Texans over trade, but even that was squashed. Which afterward, local Houston sources had written that the Texans actually are trying to persuade Deshaun to stay. So, what now?
It’s a day-to-day situation
That’s all we know at the moment, but the real question is what should we believe? Honestly, Deshaun probably does want to leave and I don’t blame him. I mean you give a guy a massive contract extension just to leave him in the dark on his own coach? Come on now.
Whether we decide to keep him or not, I just want to know concrete information. Not daily nuggets featuring something different. In that case, we Houston fans could be able to finally move on. But then again, we’ll just have to wait and see some more huh? It’s a “Day-to-day,” situation.
