Von Miller is entering his 11th season in the NFL. From the minute, he stepped on that field, he has been one of the best defensive players in the league. He has won a super bowl with the Broncos. Many young players around the league have looked up to him as a mentor both on and off the field. However, his age is getting up there to the point where the Broncos and Von himself need to ask important questions about the future. Broncos and Miller may be heading in opposite directions soon.
Miller is set to make $17.5 million this year. It is also the last year of the 6 years, $114 million deal he signed with Denver back in 2016. There have been rumors surfacing that the Broncos may have to move on from Miller to save cap space and to start building a younger team.
Although the offseason isn’t for a few weeks, this situation may be resolved much before that. It would be weird to see this Broncos team without Miller but anything can happen in this league.
What to know?
Von Miller didn’t play this year because of an injury he suffered in the offseason. This injury also required ankle surgery and at this age; that’s a lot to ask for a pro football player. He is also now dealing with off-field, legal trouble which the team probably isn’t the happiest about.
If the two teams do decide to move on from each other before the season starts, they would be taking a cap hit of $22 Million. This is definitely something to watch for if you’re a Broncos fan or an NFL fan in general.
If Von Miller does become available on the open market, there will be several teams that could use his services. Despite coming off of ankle surgery and being over 30 years old, he is still one of the best to ever do it. Many teams in the NFL could use someone like him on defense. This is for sure a situation that all fans should watch out for and keep an eye on.
We may have to wait for the legal process off the field to conclude before we have any questions answered. The Broncos will be looking into everything and it may very well play a role in whether or not they move on from him this offseason.
