Kyle Trask Is the New Favorite To Win The Heisman Trophy

Add another name to the list of potential Heisman Trophy winners for the 2020 college football season.

His name is Kyle Trask. He is the quarterback for the fifth-ranked Florida Gators.

If you haven’t heard of Trask, don’t worry, not a lot of other people have either.

As the media has fawned all over Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, Trask has quietly put together an impressive body of work and is making a case to win college football’s highest award in January.

Trask is coming off a game against Arkansas where he threw for 356 yards and six touchdowns as the Gators whipped Arkansas 63-35 in the swamp last Saturday.

Trask has led the Gators to a 5-1 record, passing for 2,171 yards with 28 touchdown passes and three interceptions. He also leads the nation with 28 TD passes and has passed for at least four touchdown passes in all six games.

With a game against a winless Vanderbilt team on Saturday, expect Trask to continue to add to his total.

The Vanderbilt pass defense has been a sieve all season and has given up some big numbers to opposing quarterbacks.

If you bet money on Trask winning the Heisman before the season began, you may be in for a nice payoff in January.

Trask was just an afterthought when the season began, as Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Justin Fields were the two big favorites. But Trask has surprised everyone this season and is now the favorite to take home the hardware.

Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence has the overall best talent, but Trask could finish with the better overall stats.

Another player from the SEC that has put himself in contention for the Heisman is Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.

Jones has been the MVP of the Alabama team so far this season and has the Crimson Tide ranked number one in the country.

Back to Trask, he is not only putting up some impressive numbers, but is also impressing scouts with his decision-making, and his ability to exploit the opposing team’s defense.

Trask has connected with 12 Gators this season, and seven of those receivers have caught at least one touchdown pass. A credit to Trask and his ability to find the open man.

The Gators have a favorable schedule the rest of the way with games against Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tennessee, and LSU.

Will Trask win the Heisman? There is a lot of football to be played. There have been more weird things happen in this COVID year of college football than I have ever seen.

It will all come down to the SEC Championship Game, where the Gators are expected to face Alabama.

A good showing by the Gators and Kyle Trask could lock up the Heisman. A blow out loss and an error-filled game by Trask, that could give the Heisman to Mac Jones or Justin Fields.
