Monday Morning Around The NFL

-The big story from the weekend is the New York Jets getting their first win of the season against the Los Angeles Rams on the road 23-20. The Rams drop to 9-5 and trail Seattle by a game in the N.F.C. West. Are you more shocked the Jets won or the Rams lost?

-The New England Patriots have officially been eliminated from the playoffs. The Patriots were beaten by the Miami Dolphins 22-12 and will miss the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. I think it’s obvious Cam Newton is not the answer at quarterback for the Patriots.

-David Montgomery ran for a career-high 146 yards in a 33-27 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears 7-7 keep their slim playoff hopes alive, while the Viking’s playoff chances are on life support. The Vikings trail Arizona by two games with two to play.

-The Seahawks clinched their ninth playoff berth in 11 years as they hang on to beat Washington 20-15. There were some tense moments late for the Seahawks with Washington driving, but the Seahawks defense gets the job done.

—The Titans beat the Detroit Lions 46-27. The big story in Nashville is Derrick Henry and the march to 2,000 yards. Henry had 147 today and is 313 shy of 2,000 yards on the season. Henry will need to average 156.5 yards in the next two games to reach the milestone.

-Dez Bryant caught his first touchdown pass in three years today. Bryant caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the Ravens 40-14 over Jacksonville.

-The Buffalo Bills clinched their first division title in 25 yards with their 48-19 win over the Broncos in Denver. The Bills were welcomed home by hundreds of fans at 2 AM at the Buffalo airport.

-Green Bay beat Carolina 24-16, but Aaron Rodgers was not happy. He called the win “A disappointing win.” The Packers led 21-3 at the half and were outscored 13-3 in the second half.

-Don’t look now, but the Dallas Cowboys have a chance to win the N.F.C. East. Dallas beat San Francisco 41-33 to improve to 5-9. The Cowboys are tied with the New York Giants for second in the division at 5-9 and trail Washington by one game.

-It was another comeback for the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady as he brought the Bucs back from a 17-0 deficit to beat the Falcons 31-27. The Bucs had five first downs and 60 yards of offense in the first half. They outscored the Falcons 31-10 in the second half and outgained Atlanta 356-108 in total yards.

-The Chiefs cemented their status as the best team in the N.F.L. with their 32-29 win against the Saints. Patrick Mahomes continued to show why he is the M.V.P. of the league as he passed for 254 yards and three touchdowns against a top-five defense.

-Jalen Hurt gets better every week. Although his Eagles lost 33-26 to the Cardinals, he had his team in a position to win when the game ended. Hurts passed for 338 yards and three touchdowns and did enough good things to earn the start next week against Dallas. The odds are that Hurts will be the starting quarterback in Philadelphia in 2021.

-Deshaun Watson deserves better. The Texans quarterback passed for 373 yards and two touchdowns, and that wasn’t good enough as his team came up short against the Colts 27-20.

-The Cleveland Browns took a massive step toward their first playoff berth in 17 yards. The Browns beat the New York Giants 20-6 being an outstanding performance from Baker Mayfield. Mayfield was 27/32 for 297 yards and two touchdown passes. The Browns are now 10-4, their first ten-win season since 2007.
