Packers Resign Aaron Jones To Four-Year Contract

In a highly unexpected move, the Green Bay Packers have resigned Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones. The deal is for $48 million, which includes a $13 million signing bonus.

Aaron Jones Rumors Were Wild

Earlier in the 2020 season, it was reported the Aaron Jones had fired his agent and hired Drew Rosenhaus. It was also reported that he turned down a contract extension with the Packers during the season. To many, this indicated that he was likely to sign elsewhere. Indeed, even on this site, we wrote about possible replacements.

However, even though he had offers for more money elsewhere, the star back wanted to remain in Green Bay.

What Is Next for the Packers?

In order to get under the salary cap and make this deal work, the Packers will have to finish their rumored contract extension with Pro Bowl linebacker Za’Darius Smith.

This also likely means that Jamaal Williams will not be retained by Green Bay. Williams and Jones were both drafted by the Packers in the 2017 NFL Draft. Last season, the Packers drafted AJ Dillon, indicating that one or both of their two backs would not be brought back.
