Week three of the NFL season is here and there are some big matchups this week. The Rams travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills, the Saints host the Packers on Sunday night and the Ravens and Chiefs battle it out in Baltimore on Monday night.
The Chiefs and Ravens highlight this week as we get to watch the two reigning NFL MVPs play head-to-head in a national spotlight. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens are 3.5 point favorites but I wouldn’t count out Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Mahomes is 5-1-1 against the spread when the Chiefs are the underdogs and I have the Chiefs winning outright. A big reason for the skepticism on Kansas City is because of their close game a week ago in L.A. The Chargers and rookie quarterback Justin Herbert took the Chiefs to overtime and made the Chiefs look vulnerable.
Except, the Chargers always make the Chiefs look vulnerable and bottle up Mahomes. Mahomes averaged 178 passing yards in two games against the Chargers last season. Meanwhile, the Ravens released Earl Thomas and have two former 6th round draft picks playing safety. And while the pass rush is okay for the Ravens, it’s no Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram III. The Chiefs offense should be back to normal and putting up points.
When the Ravens have to play from behind, Jackson has struggled so far in his young career. He’s 0-2 against the Chiefs and seems to have all the pressure on him this week. If the Ravens defense cannot slow down Mahomes, Jackson will have to play from behind again. Will he be able to keep pace with the defending Super Bowl Champions? I need to see it to believe it.
