Three Teams That Could Sign Davante Adams In 2022

The Green Bay Packers’ offseason has been marred by Aaron Rodgers drama. Recently, it was confirmed that the situation surrounding the reigning NFL MVP has kept the Packers from being players in free agency. In addition, it has put any contract talks with First Team All-Pro wide receiver, Davante Adams, on hold.

Adams will be a free agent after the 2021 season. Whether or not Rodgers is the quarterback this season and beyond could or could not play a factor in his decision on where to sign. In any case, there will be plenty of suitors for Adams after the 2021 season. Here, we present the three teams most likely to attempt to sign him.

Team #1- The Green Bay Packers

If Aaron Rodgers ends up coming back to Green Bay, it would be a definite selling point in getting Adams to recommit to the franchise that drafted him. Having Rodgers under center, if he continues to play at a high level, would guarantee the Packers would be contenders for years to come. Adams has yet to win a Super Bowl, and Green Bay still could be the place that he does it.

On the other hand, if Rodgers does not return, the Packers will have tens of millions of dollars freed up to use on free agents. Adams’ price might be higher for the Packers without Rodgers on the roster, but the team could certainly afford it.

Team #2- The New Orleans Saints

This season, the New Orleans Saints are going to look very different. Drew Brees has retired and much of their roster has been blown up due to the salary cap. They likely will not contend in 2021 and may end up with a high draft pick. 2022 could see the Saints in the second year of a drastic rebuild in need of core pieces.

Michael Thomas is already there and will be until 2024. Adding Davante Adams would instantly make the Saints one of the best receiving teams in the NFL. Whoever is under center would surely benefit from this combination. That, however, is the key to this scenario working.

Taysom Hill is going to get his shot, but whether or not he will be any good is up for debate. Perhaps their high draft pick (if way) will be used on a rookie quarterback. Any rookie quarterback would kill to have Thomas and Adams to throw to in their first year.

Team #3- The New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have Cam Newton at quarterback, and Mac Jones was drafted to back him up. As far as receivers go, they have not had a bonified number one receiving threat since the days of Randy Moss. Bill Belichick is a guru and knows how to build a roster. If he thinks Davante Adams is a missing piece that could help bring him back to the Promised Land, he will go get him.

When Aaron Rodgers last got hurt, his backup was Dashon Kizer. The Packers struggled mightily due to Kizer’s poor play, but Adams still put up respectable receiving numbers. It does not matter who is the quarterback; Adams will produce. Anyone the Patriots trot out under center will be head and shoulders better than Kizer. If this scenario comes to fruition, watch for him to continue putting up ridiculous numbers.
