UFC 268 Has The Potential To Be Card Of The Year

Last Saturday, the UFC announced that UFC 268 will take place on November 6th at Madison Square Garden. I, for one, think that the “Garden” is a bit overrated, but for the UFC sake, this is a big deal. Not even for the UFC, for mixed martial arts as a whole.

You have to remember on April 15, 2016, it was a historic day for the UFC and mixed martial arts. The bill to legalize and regulate the sport in the state of New York was finally passed.

Still fairly new to the sport, having this card in New York City is a big deal for the sport. Dana White and company couldn’t have come up with a better card on November 6th. I mean, this card is stack with two title fights on the line. Let’s take a look at how I think all the fights will take place:

“Ragging Al” is back

Bobby Green vs Al Iaquinta: The return of “ragging Al” Iaquinta hasn’t fought since his decision loss to Dan Hooker back on October 5, 2019. Bobby Green just fought at UFC 267 in a controversial loss over Rafael Fiziev. The matchup of Green vs Iaquinta is a really fun fight, as both guys are pretty good strikers.

Iaquinta hits hard and always is looking for a knockout. I would say Green is the more well rounded fighter out of the two of them. Green hits hard too but is a threat to take the fight to the ground, even though lately Green prefers to stand up.

Prediction: Green by decision

Number One Contender Fight?

Germaine de Randamie vs Irene Aldana: This is an interesting fight in the women’s Bantamweight division. The UFC tried to get Aldana a title fight two fights ago against Holly Holms’s, but Holm’s looked great and got the win. Randamie is a former champion of the featherweight division; Randamie has challenged current champion Amanda Nunes but came up short.

Is this a number one contenders match? I think it is for Aldana. If she gets a win, I think she is next for Nunes. Randmanie is a really good striker that comes at you from all different angles; she loves throwing elbows as well. Aldana can strike with you and loves to take you down. This will be a fun fight in general.

Prediction: Randamie TKO 2nd Round

Frankie Edgar vs Marlon Vera: Former champion Edgar goes against Vera is an interesting matchup because whoever wins isn’t going to get a title fight, but that doesn’t mean this fight won’t affect the Bantamweight division. This is a pretty even fight on the feet and on the ground. I would lean for Vera if it were to get on the ground. If Edgar losses, I could see the UFC parting ways with him.

Prediction: Vera by submission 3rd Round

Former Champion Is Back

Sean Strickland vs Luke Rockhold: I am very excited for this fight; real UFC fans have this fight circled on the card. Why you ask?

It’s the return of former champion of the Middleweight division. Rockhold is making his return after a couple of years away. Rockhold is returning to his old division after going up to lightweight, but losing to current champion Jan Blachowicz back on July 6th, 2019.

But, Strickland isn’t an easy night out. Strickland is rising in the middleweight division. Strickland is a hell of a striker who has bad intentions with every punch he throws. I think this will be a kickboxing fight, and at times, trying to get it to the ground by either fighter. You can tell me 100 different ways how the fight would go, and I would believe it.

Prediction: Rockhold by decision

KO Will Happen One Way Or Another

Justin Gaethje vs Michael Candler: A potential knockout of the year candidate right here. Both fighters lost in their pursuit of winning the lightweight belt. Now, in my eyes, this is the number one contender’s match. With current champion, Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier set to fight on December 11th.

Both fighters will look to knock the other person out; that’s the game plan for either guy. I could see Chandler try and mix it up, and take this fight to the ground due to Gaethje’s last fight. Gaethje and Candler are both former college wrestlers. I like Candler on the ground if it gets to the ground.

Prediction: Candler by KO in 2nd Round

Not Mad, Just Disappointed

Rose Namajunas vs Zhang Weili: I am not mad at this fight taking place again. At the same time though, the first time they fought, it wasn’t even close. Namajunas didn’t do a good job calling anyone out nor did the women’s strawweight division. Welil, same thing.

Again, I am not mad at this fight happing, I’m just confused on why this fight is taking place after the first one wasn’t close.

Prediction: Namajunas gets the win somehow, someway

Huge Fight

Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington: UFC fans have been waiting for this rematch the moment the first fight was over. Last fight both guys were just striking, and it was beautiful to watch. Not one takedown was attempted by either guy, who both have a wrestling background.

This fight is different in many ways. Usman has a new coach, and his striking has improved tremendously; Covington has a new coach as well. Usman has been a lot more active than Covington has since their last fight. This fight could be fight of the year, and I cannot wait for this fight to take place.

Prediction: Usman TKO 3rd Round
