On this weeks episode on AEW Dynamite was saw the debut of Andrade El Idolo:
Andrade signed with WWE in 2015 and was assigned to the NXT brand, where he became a one-time NXT Champion. He was promoted to the main roster in 2018, becoming a one-time United States Champion. He was released earlier in 2021.
WWE has released a massive number of wrestlers since the start of 2021. While a few names popped up early in the year, the first big round of cuts arrived on April 15th (exactly one year after more than 30 wrestlers were let go in 2020, referred to by some as “Black Wednesday”) followed by another batch of NXT stars and Performance Center trainees in May.
Six more names were confirmed on June 2nd, this time highlighted by former Universal Champion Braun Strowman and former NXT Champion Aleister Black. Along with Strowman and Black WWE released Lana, Ruby Riott, and Murphy.
Assuming all of the wrestlers fired on Wednesday have the 90-day “No Compete” clause in their contract, none of them would be able to appear on AEW programming until the Sept. 1 episode of AEW Dynamite. That also means they could potentially appear at AEW’s All Out pay-per-view, which was confirmed for Sunday, Sept. 5 in Chicago. Obviously, AEW can’t/won’t sign everyone WWE lets go, but the opportunity is there.
Strowman is the big name of the WWE wrestlers that was released this week. He is a former Tag Team, Intercontinental, and WWE champion.
AEW can’t bring everyone into their company, but Mick Foley would certainly suggest that they look Strowman’s way. Mick Foley sent out a pair of tweets about Braun Strowman. He expressed a bit of shock at the Monster Among Men’s release, and then he made a very bold assertion. Foley said that a “fired up Strowman” could be a “can’t miss signing” for All Elite Wrestling.
On Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast, the WWE legend spoke about Braun Strowman’s future following his release. Booker T’s co-host Brad Gilmore suggested that Strowman could go to AEW and have matches against the likes of Brian Cage. Booker T named a few AEW stars that Braun Strowman could face in AEW.
It’s like two matches over there (in AEW) – Lance Archer, Cage, Miro, there are two-three guys.
Aleister Black (Tommy End):
Black the former NXT Champion was a shocking release. The company was just spending a lot of time and money on him and his development, but suddenly, out of nowhere, he was cut loose. The entire storyline now has fallen flat and Black himself was undoubtedly confused.
In a recent post on Twitter, the former WWE Superstar teased an encounter with none other than Jon Moxley, who is currently in AEW. This was in response to a fan asking him if he would go down the same road as Moxley following his WWE release.
Should she and Miro reunite in AEW to recapture the magic from their early years in the WWE? Let us know in the comments below! Miro and Lana were the ultimate power couple in WWE. Together they both enjoyed their greatest success while with the company. With Lana no longer under contract with WWE.
Riott has a ton to offer any women’s division. Since AEW is still building their women’s roster we can’t imagine that she will go unnoticed in the free-agent pool.
Former SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley, who shared her heart on social media regarding the recently released Ruby Riott.
Murphy was a former WWE Cruiserweight Champion. He hasn’t been seen on SmackDown recently after his storyline with the Mysterio family was randomly dropped.
Murphy said he would love to wrestle Kenny Omega and the AEW Champion responded, putting over the ex WWE Superstar. With Murphy free and clear, this dream match has the chance to become a reality in the future.
